Content is the new black. Content is king. Content is cool.
However you phrase it – drawing customers in by offering something interesting, educational and relatable is much more effective than pushy advertising. Plus, it does wonders for your SEO.
One way to do this is in writing, and compelling articles combined with other types of content are very effective. To begin this journey, you first need a strong content strategy. This means analysing and empathising with your audience, planning out your content in relation to keywords and industry specific topics, creating the content and managing it. To find out more, read my article on How to get started with content marketing (and why it matters).
Alongside freelance consultancy, I have also worked for several companies as a full-time employee working on content marketing, content strategy and editorial calendars.
- As a Communications Consultant for NNE, I led the content marketing platform TechTalk. This meant not only being the chief editor and organising and distributing tasks, but also ensuring we stuck to our strategy and the fundamentals of content marketing. I copyedited/ghostwrote several technical articles for global experts on a multitude of topics, and built up their webinar and video database.
- As Communications and Marketing lead at Bloodlink, I started their content marketing journey by formulating a strategy and being the chief editor for their website. I wrote the bulk of their website content whilst also conceiving and writing several articles for their blog and for external publications.
- As Communications Officer at GLOBAL CSR, I improved their online presence and visibility as a small company by writing several articles for online CSR publications about the benefits of respecting human rights as a business. I also streamlined and sharpened their company message in both print and digital content.
